Sage shook
the memory away before it could go any further, wrapping her arms around her
shoulders she whispered, “I told you so.”
Cooper shook
his head. The stubborn girl had said it a million times since that snowy night
at the house. He was sure she’d say it a million times more. Shaking his head,
he thought he saw something peek its head out of the ajar barn door.
Hold on, Sage he said holding his arm out. She
walked through it. Cursing, he ran ahead of her to the barn. He’d learned how
to blow out candles, move a few small objects, but still couldn’t physically
touch a person. Closing his eyes, he walked through the door. He flinched every
time he walked through a wall, still not used to the awkward sensation.
There in the
dark he heard a low, guttural sound. It didn’t take long for his eyes to find
the source. A brown and white dog with tall ears stood in the corner, staring
directly at Cooper.
Okay, puppy, be cool, said Cooper, walking towards
the dog. I'm not gonna hurt you. I just
need to talk to you for a second.
The dog
growled a little louder and bared its front teeth.
It's okay. I'm glad you can see
me. Maybe you could do me a favor? Cooper whispered to the dog. You bark really loud so that nice lady can hear you and run away. She
doesn’t bother you, and you don’t bite her. Doesn’t that sound like a good
deal? What do you say? Wanna be friends? Come on, be a good puppy. Speak!
The dog
turned its attention to the door.
Crap. Cooper ran toward the dog
shouting, Over here you mangy mutt. Stay
away from her!
