I'm participating in the Oklahoma Women Bloggers Challenge "For
the Love of Blogging" this week, today the topic is knick knacks (which for
the record, no one knows how to spell).
I would be a big fat liar if I said I didn't collect
anything, in fact The Hubs would tell you I collect everything. To be honest I
am a clutter bug, The Hubs is not, but he gives me my "clutter bug"
spaces (beside my chair, my office) and I try to keep the rest of the house
mostly clutter free (try being the key word).
My biggest collection has to be my books. I have three tall
book shelves filled to the brim and can't help but buy more whenever the
occasion calls for it, which is any day that ends in "y." They are
all lined up nicely, in alphabetical order--or at least they used to be, before
I had Baby Girl, who also enjoys books, but can't be trusted not to rip the
pages out. Now my neatly lined shelves are stacked on top of each other, trying
to keep my collection out of her grubby, jelly laden hands.
I also collect turtles. I received my first turtle from my
younger sister, Anna. I was in a gypsy stage of my life, bouncing from
wonderful seasonal job, to wonderful seasonal job when she gave me a turtle
necklace and said, "This way you'll always have home with you, just like
the turtle." Now, I have over 50 turtles in my collection (none of them
alive, by the way. Wildlife belongs in the wild, turtles included).
I've always been a lover of wildlife which would explain my
collection of birds and bears (also not
alive; also belong only in the wild.) I've even started a little frog
collection for Baby Girl, which she will never fully appreciate and will
probably be terrified by them.
Finally, I collect dust... lots and lots of dust. You try
dusting around 50+ turtles, birds and bears and see how often you do it.
