"You're a coward."
This sentence was actually said to me via Facebook because I
refused to take a stance on a political debate. It's not that I didn't have an
opinion on the matter. I have an opinion on just about everything, just ask my
husband. It's that I didn't see the point of arguing. So does it make me a
coward to step away from a debate?
Facebook, which is my social media addiction of choice, has
been plastered with political posts for what feels like forever. First, it was
on who was the right man for the job of President, then it was whether America
made a good choice or a bad choice, and now it's all about gun control. Throw in a little
religion on both sides and viola, let's stir this boiling pot and yell at each
other for not thinking exactly like we do. And for those of you who find my
faith lacking due to my absences of voice yelling out Jesus' name, I choice to
bring people to Christ through the actions of my life, not how fast I can type
in all caps.
I don't like debating. I think it's pointless, nothing you
say to me is going to change my mind, and more than likely nothing I'm going to
say is going to change your mind. Usually both parties just walk away angry and
in my opinion (see I told you have one) life is too short to be angry. So why
debate? Why the passionate need to "be right"?
Now I ask you, am I really being a coward for not
engaging this argument or am I just being respectful of your choice to be wrong?
P. S. - This is why you should never upset a writer, she'll just blog about it and then kill you off in a novel later.
